The
Voice
Bella
has a fantastic voice. Of course, you can understand being partially deaf
makes it a little harder to perfect such an orally reliant pursuit. No
one however, who has been privileged to hear her sing, fails to recognise
her abilities - "the voice of an angel". From early days Bella's
vocal quality has been recognised by all. At 15 she sang back up vocals
with Rod Stewart in Los Angeles, later she was to write and record music
with many contemporaries here in Australia.
With her deteriorating hearing condition it became difficult to maintain
vocal control but since fitted with her aids she is revisiting her passion
with a passion. She is involved with a group that plays regularly as an
outlet for their day to day busy lives. This group comprises of some of
the best musicians in Australia.
Most find it quite remarkable how well she sings and are even more amazed
to learn she is also hard of hearing.
A New Found Voice
From the first exciting day (with her new ears) when she heard birds in
the trees again, the doorbell ring and her mother speaking from behind
her, she has been practicing and refining her voice obsessively. "My
ears have given me a new voice and a renewed confidence to use the gift
I was given. People have always said I sounded great but it wasn't until
I could really hear it back that I could accept that." Throughout
this process she is discovering that her hearing aids are not perfect
but believes there is potential in improving them by applying her singing
requirements to the design of the aid.
In
The Studio
By listening back to and perfecting her recordings in the studio, Bella
is striving to achieve her earlier stage confidence. The studio has proved
to be a valuable resource in re-developing her talent. Remembering that
she can not wear her aids when performing in a band environment, the studio
sessions have revealed that her wearing of aids while recording provides
a useful point of reference for singing without them.
Recent
activities
With a gaining confidence in her abilities Bella is doing more and more
voiceover work for television commercials through The Edge Media Group.
Her exuberant personality adds the necessary sparkle required for the
job. Recent commercials include Total Girl, a new magazine from Pacific
Publications
That's Life Australia & New Zealand, and Ricky Rocket.
Bella can sing.
Its not a matter of learning her craft, its all about perfecting total
control over undeniable quality. For this reason she has chosen to tackle
some of the hardest songs she can come up with, from artists such as Joni
Mitchell, Roberta Flack, Elton John, Celion Dion and more, in a process
of perfection.
Song writing is coming along well too and by collaboration with other
song writers she believes a release of her first original album in eminent.
During this process she plans to commit to other projects including a
Christmas album due for release early November 2003.
